  1. We stayed at Ursula's house in Southern Austria last night (outside of Graz). Today we toured the local area. We visited a house that used to be her father's, an artist. It's a farm house, with land and some orchard trees. The kids had fun running around and looking for creatures or playing war type games. Ursula showed us the old house, including her father's old drawings and the farm. It was an overcast day, but it didn't pour. We had a delicious dinner last night and lunch today, then we headed to Vienna. We are now in her studio apartment in Vienna. It's a tiny space, but she has used her ingenious talents to maximize the space. It looks like there is a tree fort within her apartment. She has a tiny yard outside the apartment (not that common), so the kids enjoyed jumping on a trampoline. The kids are finally asleep-- not so easy, since there are no doors to separate them from our conversation. Life is good. We have wine and are sharing our past, our family stories, our lives. Life is good. Oh yes, I did say that already.

    1. Love all the photos. Love the city scenes and the kids on wheels. Love the country pics and kids enjoying the whole outdoors as only kids can do. Love the people photos...the groups of you all... and the exceptionally beautiful kid portraits. All in all, I would say Austria is a good place for you. Nice to have familiar friends to be with there. Too bad I couldn't have emailed myself there. It looks like it would be fun to hang out with you guys!
Went to Erica's baby shower today at Patsy's house. It was a great time. Erica just has about 5 weeks to go, but she doesn't look that pregnant. We had a terrific brunch menu of quiche, roasted potatoes, bacon, fruit salad, breads, etc. Lots of catch up conversations with my cousin Judy, Patsy's sisters Susie and Sally, Teresa, Erin, Patsy and later Carl, and Speedy, an old Chatham friend. I hung out for a long time just soaking up the good vibes. (And of course, Erica got lots of cool stuff for the baby.)
Home now. It is suddenly exceptionally hot here... in the 70s and predicted to be up to the high 80s tomorrow. Go figure! I had a fire in my fireplace just this past Thursday to take the Chill off.
Enjoy the days you have there in Austria...love, Mom

    2. You would have enjoyed the countryside. Dragging the kids through the city got tough after a while. The kids were tired and bored of being on the move. It's hard to travel with 6 kids in toe, especially when the weather isn't pleasant. They started out strong in a spirit of adventure, but they wilted after a few hours. We'll see how they do today.
