an interesting day

Yesterday we went for a ride on the teleferike - a cable car ride up to a mountain on the edge of the city.  It was a beautiful ride, as we knew it would be.  It was pretty cold up on the mountain.  Probably around 40 degrees (F).  The kids enjoyed playing at a playground up there.  They both had a little ride (walk) on a small horse (Luke's first time, Nathan's second, but he doesn't remember the first time, so it was like his first.)  We went to a restaurant up on the mountain that has a beautiful view and had a series of ponds of water with fish in them.  Luke wanted to go fishing, so I ordered fish for lunch & Luke and Nathan got to try to catch a fish for me, with a little help from the waiter.  Luke was thrilled at first, but he looked a little concerned for the fish once they caught him.  He didn't try the cooked fish after it came, but Nathan liked it.

There were a couple of mules (or perhaps a mule & a horse-I'm not sure) that were getting friendly.  Nathan thought they had mated because they rubbed necks.  I do think one of them had the intention of mating, but luckily the kids didn't get that lesson in reproduction yet.

Looking at the fish.

The restaurant was beautiful inside - much fancier than we have been to with kids, and we sat next to a warm fireplace. The beautiful location, warm fire & some good Raki made for a happy Genci.

Luke liked drinking his sparkling water out of a fancy wine glass.

Yeah!  They caught a fish!

Luke was concerned for the fish - how long would it be able to breathe out of the water.  It was about to be cooked anyways, but I think my little tender-hearted one hadn't thought that through before fishing.

So warm, so nice!

Luke wants everyone to know that pine needles are full of vitamin C and that they're kind of tasty to munch on.  The kids learned this from a poster about edible plants at the hostel.  Luke specifically asked me to add this to my blog.

Weeds breaking through the new asphalt.

Luke was terrified of the ride on the teleferike, so one of us had to hold him the whole ride.  Last year he was fine.

These are the types of buildings that are filling up the city.  They keep building and building them.  They paint them bright colors in different patterns.
